Encounters with Canada Katelyn Pocha had a great experience in Ottawa at Encounters with Canada. She participated in the Science and Technology theme. Katelyn had a lot of FUN, and she learned a lot too!!! Each year Encounters with Canada gives 3,000 young Canadians aged 14 to 17 the opportunity to gain a better understanding of Canada. The program consists of a series of week-long workshops offered over a 26-week period. Encounters with Canada is a program of the Canadian Unity Council funded in part by the Government of Canada, through Exchanges Canada, a part of the Department of Canadian Heritage. The objective of the program is to give youth from different backgrounds and regions the opportunity to meet, get to know one another, discover their contry and gain a better understanding of Canada's major institutions. Interested students should contact Ms. Jakobsen to apply.

Congratulations to Nicola Carlyle, Brandi Lane and Bradley Wright who each received a $150.00 cash award from the First Nations Chiefs’ Health Committee School-Aged Math and Acience Award Program. This is an incentive program to promote the success of Aboriginal students in the Math and Science areas. (2 Digital photos attached)

More from Aboriginal Education and the First Nations Chief’s Health Committee…

Mt. Baker received a grant for four Aboriginal students to explore Health, Science and Math careers at the University of British Columbia. Students interested in this opportunity submitted essays outlining why they were interested, what they hoped to learn and what would they contribute to the trip and their communities upon their return. The students who will be jetting off to Vancouver are: Joel Ogle, Amber Buck, Denni Clement and Katelyn Pocha. Congratulations!!
